Buying a Cabin in Saskatchewan: Why Go the RTM Route?

How would you like to own a cottage in the land of the living skies? Saskatchewan is home to some of the best and brightest lakes in Western Canada, meaning you can experience all they have to offer in your very own cabin. There are multiple communities near Saskatoon for you to have a weekend getaway or take off for the entire summer. Let’s explore some of the most popular communities in Saskatchewan for homes and cottages.

3 Popular Communities for your Saskatchewan Cottage

Manitou Beach

This mineral content not only leaves swimmers feeling like they just left a day at the spa, but it also makes it a great spot to float effortlessly! As the water contains highly concentrated minerals, there are no fish in this lake, but that doesn’t mean you can’t experience other activities.

Take in local historical sights while you tour through the village, spend an afternoon on their 9-hole golf course or hop in the water and go boating, sailing, paddle boarding, or kayaking.

Good Spirit Lake

Head 3.5 hours southeast of Saskatoon and you’ll find Good Spirit Lake. This community beautifully balances everything the lake has to offer with its surroundings. There’s something for everyone here, and it was even named one of the top 10 beaches in Canada by Macleans Magazine!

Good Spirit Lake has almost 40 kilometres of trails that are enjoyed year-round by cyclists, hikers, birdwatchers, cross-country skiers and snowmobilers. What makes this community even more unique is that it’s lined with natural sand dunes that are a hit among tourists and locals! You won’t find scenery like this anywhere else in Saskatchewan.

Diefenbaker Lake

This community is packed with picturesque scenery in every direction. Debunking the age-old joke that Saskatchewan is completely flat, this lake offers 80kms of shoreline along rolling hills.

Fishermen love Diefenbaker Lake. In addition to its sandy beaches, Diefenbaker lake offers impressive trophy fishing where you can catch Lake Whitefish, Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Walleye and Burbot.

Diefenbaker Lake is the largest lake in Southern Saskatchewan and has a variety of additional activities like an 18-hole championship golf course, a spray park and a mini gold and ice cream stop!

Buying Land for your Summer Cabin

Once you’ve narrowed down the location for your new ready-to-move (RTM) cabin, you’ll need to start looking for land that is available to purchase. First: consider if the land is a good fit for an RTM Home. Zoning restrictions, utility access and the cost of preparing land should be considered when choosing a modular home site. These factors can sneak up on potential RTM Homebuyers and take a chunk out of your budget.

If you choose to purchase a Jandel RTM in Saskatoon, part of our purchase process includes a site inspection for all customers. During the site inspection, we’ll review anything that needs to be done to the site (such as tree clearing and widening of approaches) prior to your home being delivered.
