4 Things you need to know about building a house in Northeastern British Columbia

British Columbia is Canada’s 3rd largest province and home to the world’s most expensive hot dog. It’s filled with thousands of hiking trails, kilometers of coastline and families searching for the perfect space to call their own. For families in Northeastern British Columbia, choosing to build a home comes with a few considerations due to geographical and code restrictions. We’ve compiled the top 4 things you need to know about building a home in Northeastern British Columbia.

Build for the BC Climate

Northern BC can experience some of the most frigid temperatures in the country. It’s important to consider using top quality construction materials to ensure you, and your investment, are protected from the cold.

Jandel Homes has standard R60 Ceiling (Flat Ceiling), R40 Flooring and R22 Wall insulation in all of our homes. We’ve put this feature in place now, so you don’t have to spend thousands retrofitting your home at a later date. This extraordinary package keeps you warm throughout the harsh BC winter climate while keeping money in your pocket.

Note: We must upgrade our standard exterior wall insulation to R24 and once we get to Zone 7B (Fort Nelson). We also have to upgrade the windows to casement and add an HRV system to meet code.

Transportation Considerations

Transportation methods have come a long way over the last 45 years and Jandel Homes has the resources to get your dream home from our manufacturing facility all the way up to Northeastern BC. Some things to consider include the size of your home and whether or not hinged eaves are permitted for transport.

20’ wide homes can be transported almost everywhere in the BC Peace Region and we’ve been pushing the envelope with delivering a few 22’ wides over the past two years – allowing for 1,672 sq. ft. in ONE piece). We also have many plans that can be shipped in two pieces available to order.

Our homes are manufactured tough for long-haul delivery.Whether you’re looking to build a home in Tupper, Chetwynd, Fort Nelson, Dawson Creek or Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia – you have the freedom to build your dream home.

Building in BC: Hear from Our Customers

Don’t just take our word for it – hear what your Northern BC neighbours have to say about having their dream Jandel Home delivered.

“My daughter and I decided to purchase a custom built Jandel home. We had the deck added on which has added so much to the outside. I love the kitchen! I like the window placement and being able to see outside. Everything is quite convenient.

My daughter and I had a wonderful experience in talking with Janel. It was very easy and we were quite surprised that it happened so quickly. We had gone in in May-June and the house was here by September 1. It was quite quick – a lot faster then [site] building one!”
